One big Burger
Well, at least the salsa is low-cal.
The West Michigan Whitecaps, a minor league baseball team, will be offering up major league cholesterol, carbohydrates and calories in an enormous hamburger being added to the menu this year at the Fifth Third Ballpark.
The 4-pound, $20 burger features five beef patties, five slices of cheese, nearly a cup of chili and liberal doses of salsa and corn chips, all on an 8-inch sesame-seed bun. That’s a lot of dough!
The Grand Rapids Press reports that anyone who eats the entire 4,800-calorie behemoth in one sitting will receive a special T-shirt. Saner fans can divide it up with a pizza cutter and share.
The Midwest League team is a Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Wednesday will be a huge day for Texas DE Brian Orakpo, because all of the NFL teams are expected to send at least one representative to the Texas Pro Day to view his workout. Orakpo pulled a hamstring at the Indianapolis Combine and was unable to perform in the linebacker drills. Tomorrow will be his first chance to prove that he’s athletic enough to drop into coverage as a linebacker, which will really enhance his stock. NFL teams that use the 3-4 scheme will especially be interested in his workout tomorrow.
Clemson Pro Day…Twenty five NFL scouts were in attendance at the workout…Halfback James Davis ran a blazing 4.39 forty yard dash, and looked good catching the ball out of the backfield in the field drills…
Notes – Defensive tackle Dorell Scott has already set up or performed workouts with a number of NFL teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys.
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain reports the open quarterback competition between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn officially has begun, Browns coach Eric Mangini said at NFL owners meetings this morning. While the prospect of trading one still exists, Mangini said he met with both quarterbacks prior to coming here and explained they will have an open competition for the starting job in 2009.
Matt Mosley of ESPN reporting from the owners meeting says Bills’ head coach Dick Jauron is talking about T.O.’s arrival in Buffalo…Jauron said he purposely didn’t talk to anyone about T.O.’s past when discussions came up about signing the player…Jauron did acknowledge that Cowboys director of player development Calvin Hill called him on T.O.’s behalf…”I don’t see it as a great risk,” Jauron said. “I’d rather play with him than against him…Playing against him is not any fun…There are not many corners with that size and speed and athletic ability to cover him.”
A NEW NFL CAPPP!!!
Goodell: New cap likely in a year…NFL owners are formulating a strategy to begin negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union, but commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday he expects a new deal will be in place before next March, when the salary cap is set to expire. This should be rather interesting.!!!!!!
